For adults with overlapping, gapped or misaligned teeth, there may be a clear, teeth straightening solution suitable for you.
Thanks to advancements in dental technology, we are now able to straighten your smile without the use of metal brackets, bands or wires.
Invisalign® can transform the appearance of your smile with the use of a series of clear, removable aligners. Each aligner is slightly different from the last and is worn for a certain amount of time, determined by your dentist to gently guide your teeth into their new position.
Full treatment is usually completed within 9 to 18 months. However, treatment time will vary from patient to patient. During your treatment, you will use a series of 18-36 aligners which should be worn for at least 21 hours a day. Aligners can be easily removed when eating, drinking or brushing your teeth but should be worn for the rest of the time.
Here are some of the advantages of Invisalign®:
- Nearly invisible – Invisalign® clear aligners are near invisible so most people won’t even know that you are wearing anything at all.
- Removable – Invisalign® aligners can be easily removed, making it easy to eat and removing the risk of anything getting stuck in your braces. It also means that you do not have to alter your hygiene routine as teeth can be brushed and flossed as normal.
- Durability – Invisalign® aligners are made from a durable, thermoplastic material so as long as you look after them correctly, there is little risk of damaging them.
- Comfort – Most patients find Invisalign® aligners to be much more comfortable than traditional braces, as there is less risk of irritation and oral sores. However, it is normal to experience some discomfort or pressure when you start using a new aligner. This is just a sign that your aligners are working and shifting your teeth into their new position.
Can anyone get Invisalign?
While Invisalign® is a great orthodontic option for many people, it is not a suitable option for everyone.
If you have a severe overbite or underbite, unerupted teeth, numerous missing teeth or severely chipped teeth then Invisalign® may not work and other orthodontic treatments may be recommended.
Before undergoing any treatment, your dentist will provide a full orthodontic assessment to determine the best course of treatment that will both fix your orthodontic issues and suit your lifestyle.
